Guise: Recent Prints by Deborah Oropallo

At the de Young Museum until Sept. 16th

~

Everything about this exhibit should terrify you:
  1. It's digital collage
  2. The images were pulled off the internet
  3. It's issue art
But "Deborah Oropollo":http://www.deborahoropallo.com/ walks on water so I'm not surprised that she can make something out of that mess. The prints are images from costume lingerie catalogs superimposed on portraits of military officials. IMO they're sexy and grotesque but according to the deYoung blurb she raises "issues about gender, costume, fantasy, potency, power, and hierarchy." Art speak... Just go see it and while you're there check out the "Hiroshi Sugimoto":http://www.thinker.org/deyoung/exhibitions/exhibition.asp?exhibitionkey=658 exhibit which closes a week later. ~

Famtastic. Mesmorizing and creepy. If the price was right I would definitely own one of these.

Did you see the prices? I was wondering how much they went for...

Aw man, I'm so bummed I missed this! I was at Stephen Wirtz and saw two of these prints ready to be packed. So nice. Well, at least now I know the name of the artist. :)
