The Deep History of the Information Age

The Long Now runs a great seminar/lecture series that has touched on a lot of odd and eclectic topics: from when we will pop off into a singularity (or not), the nature of slums, the million year history of climate change, how best to make a simulation, to how we will store our information for years to come. Alex Wright will be talking about the last. Its a fascinating and complex subject. This text may be all digital, but those bits have to be stored on or in something, and they have to be readable. And if you spend five minutes thinking about all the mediums of storage you've used in the last 20 years or so, you'll recognize it as a thorny problem...
